Hands-on Python Workshop I - Open311 Toronto

Jan 18, 2019 · Toronto, Canada

This is the first of the two-part hands-on workshop series in Python.

In this workshop, we will use a Google Colab notebook to introduce Python in a data science context. Participants will get to start a data science project, learn how to retrieve data with the Open311 API, and use the data to answer questions such as:
- What times do people usually make requests?
- How many requests are made each day? Split this by type of request.
- For completed requests, how long do they usually take? Which requests take the longest to fulfill?
- Are most requests completed on time?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The dataset of Open311 Toronto contains service request information for non-emergency City government services. Here, citizens can report graffiti and potholes either online or via phone, and info about these requests can be accessed by the public via the Open311 API.
