The 225 companies that comprise the City of New York’s tech Industry Partnership – the NYC Tech Talent Pipeline – recognized a common challenge. The NYC tech ecosystem is thriving, with 320,000 workers and over $30bn in wages. Within and across every sector, companies are eager for tech talent. Yet despite having the infrastructure to deliver qualified talent at scale, tech jobs remain out of reach for local talent. Together with public and private partners – and fueled by Mayor de Blasio’s $10M initial investment - these companies have worked to 1) define needs, 2) develop solutions, and 3) bring proven solutions for delivering qualified talent and jobs to scale through the City’s: 1.1M public school students, 125 colleges, $500M public workforce system, and 31,000 businesses. In just three years, these partners have launched 10 industry informed training programs that have connected hundreds of New Yorkers to jobs at companies including Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Spotify, and Viacom; designed and deployed a $20M initiative to meet the Mayor’s goal of doubling the number of tech majors by 2022; and created recruitment and hiring solutions that have helped local companies surface and secure qualified local talent. Join us to learn more about the solutions these partners have developed to support the growth of an inclusive tech ecosystem in New York City and what businesses, policymakers, and educators can do to replicate this model.
