Greetings from Computer: Building a Digital Photo Booth

Oct 30, 2019 · Cambridge, United States of America

Hi BUG! This month we are excited to introduce Chris Maire, who'll be sharing his experience of creating Greetings from Computer.

Using tools and techniques acquired over many years as a game programmer Chris Maire built Greetings from Computer, a digital photo booth controlled with a midi controller and powered by Unity In this talk, Chris will explain the origin of this device, talk about some of the rendering techniques used to create its glitchy greeting cards, and examine design choices, both intentional and otherwise, that have resonated with users. Greetings from Computer will be on display before and after the talk.

Chris Maire is an indie game developer working out of Cambridge; he's currently tech lead on an unannounced game, in addition to doing solo work through his company Fun Ghost's Haunted Fun Factory LLC and promoting the local indie game scene with Boston Indies. He's worked in the game industry professionally for 9 years, including stints at Massachusetts studios OtherSide Entertainment, Game Show Network Games, and Turbine.
