GDPR: Key Compliance Steps for Valley Companies
The General Data Protection Regulation, the Europe Union’s ’s major overhaul of data protection laws, will reach across the Atlantic and pose unprecedented challenges for U.S. businesses. U.S. businesses will face fines that could amount to 20 million Euro (almost $25 million US) or 4% of annual gross revenue, whichever is greater. Many U.S. businesses face the risk of non-compliance, even though they may be completely unaware that the laws apply to them. Not only does GDPR cover U.S. businesses with European operations, it also covers local U.S. businesses that cultivate European markets or even those that remotely monitor the behavior of EU residents.
