Exploring Racism, Politics and Afrofuturism through Comics

A fascinating evening with experts, artists and publishers in the field discussing marginalised voices in publishing.

Join us for a wide-ranging discussion exploring black comix, Afrofuturism, and the rising voices of marginalised people in publishing. This event will explore comics and fiction on the forefront of contemporary publishing and politics.

The panel includes:

  • Bill Campbell - Publisher of Rosarium books - A leading publisher of afrofuturism, science fiction and comics with diverse writers and artists
  • John Jennings - Professor, comic artist and scholar on black comics - one of the leading scholars on black comics in the world
  • Louis Netter - Senior lecturer in the School of Art, Design and Performance at the University of Portsmouth, currently working on a graphic novel written by Bill Campbell about black exodusters trying to find peace in post civil war and post-indian war America in the 19th century.

This event will be held in the University's Eldon building, and simultaneously broadcast online. Choose whether you'll be attending in person or virtually when choosing your ticket.

In line with Government guidance, there will be no social distancing but masks are recommended in crowded indoor settings and will continue to be a personal choice. Hand sanitisers will be available.
