Email Marketing 101

Nov 4, 2017 · Raleigh, United States of America

This one day workshop will run from 10am until 3:00pm on Saturday November  4th.

Whether you are brand new to email marketing or were volunteered to handle email blasts for your sister-in-law's boyfriend's window cleaning business, chances are you have lots of questions. Why do emails bounce? What's a blacklist? Why won't they open my emails???

If you're ready for some answers, you should join us! We'll discuss how email marketing works and explore the entire process, from list gathering to tracking each email you send.

Topics we'll cover include:

- Email marketing lingo
- Spam (ew)
- Building and maintaining your lists
- Creating good content
- Tracking your blasts
- And much more!

Your Teacher: Gabe Casalett, Web Designer

Gabe is a web designer and developer at a Raleigh-based credit union. His background is in IT, and his obsession with the web started when he volunteered to redesign a website at a previous job over 7 years ago. Today he spends his work days and much of his free time nerding out over HTML/CSS and looking for new things to learn. Gabe is fascinated by new technologies and our daily interactions with them. By working with GDI, he hopes to meet and help others who share his love of tech and the web!

Tech Requirements:

There will be some hands-on activities, so we recommend you bring a laptop with a spreadsheet program such as Excel (Google Spreadsheets will work too).

- A free MailChimp account (useful, but not required). Alternatively, you can follow along with your own email marketing program. The concepts are all the same.

Scholarships: Two full scholarships are available for this class. To be considered for a scholarship, please submit an application no later than October 21st. The form to apply can be found here:

Refund Policy: Your payment of $50 guarantees your seat in the entire course. Please note that we cannot issue refunds, since there's an overhead to issuing refunds via Meetup.com and we already offer the workshops at such a low cost. We put proceeds into the chapter fund, which we use as our scholarship fund.

Other Disclaimers: Our program and curriculum are geared toward adults over the age of 18; at this time we do not accept minors as students in our courses and workshops.

We sometimes take pictures at events to post on social media. If you are uncomfortable having pictures taken or posted on social media, please let us know at the start of the event.

Accessibility: If you have any accessibility issues we should know about, please email us at [masked]. We want to make sure everyone can participate!

If you have any questions prior to registering, please contact us at [masked]

It can be intimidating for women to learn and ask questions when they are in an extreme minority. While open and welcoming, today's budding developer community is up to 91% male. There isn't a comfortable place where women can learn at their own pace and not be afraid to ask "stupid questions." We decided it was time to provide a place where all questions are OK and everyone can learn in a sup...
