ECS, Jobs, Burst and the future of scripting in Unity

Apr 25, 2018 · Cambridge, United States of America

Hey BUG!
This month we'll be having our very own Graham Pentheny talk about the new scripting systems in Unity[masked] and beyond. We'll be meeting in the Havana room (not the Venture Cafe) at the CIC, so we'll be limited to 90 attendees. Please RSVP if you plan on attending so we can give building security an attendee list.

During GDC Unity recently released a beta build of their new Entity Component System, Jobs System, and Burst compiler that are slated to roll out this year. This represents a radical change to scripting in Unity. In this presentation, we’ll go over the fundamentals of data-oriented design, dive into the new scripting systems, and talk about how to write fast code in both the old and new versions of Unity.

Graham Pentheny is a developer with 10 years of experience writing game code everywhere from huge AAA C++ projects to small games in LUA, and everything in-between. Most of that experience has been making mobile games, where performance matters quite a bit. Currently he’s the engineering lead on the Alphabear 2 team at Spry Fox and one of the organizers of BUG.

By attending or participating in BUG events, you agree to abide by our safe-space policy. If you feel you are unable to, please do not attend.

CIC Cambridge is located at 1 Broadway in Cambridge, just outside the Kendall Square Red Line T stop. Whenever possible, public transportation is recommended but for those who choose to drive, parking is available underneath the building on the Third Street side. Visitor parking is also available at the Kendall St garage and at the Marriott Hotel garage, and there's limited street parking as well. When checking in at the ground floor security desk of CIC Cambridge, please be sure to bring along a government-issued ID. Due to a construction project, please excuse the in-progress look of the lobby and allow yourself a few extra minutes for passage up to the 5th floor.

Thanks to our sponsors! Unity and CIC (http://www.cic.com/) are generously sponsoring our meetup again this month.

See you there!
