Developer Workshop - Building Your Own Plugins

Aug 26, 2017 · Orlando, United States of America

This workshop, as a followup to our child theme workshop in June, is intended to help learn to build WordPress plugins. We are all going to create a basic plugin together, and walk through the steps required, as well as why and how they work.

Important: You'll need to bring your laptop if you want to follow along with the workshop. You will not be able to follow along with a tablet.

If you came to a prior workshop you'll have a development environment set up, but if not you can get information about one here: https://wporlando.org/2016/04/wordpress-local-development-environments/

You should have some basic HTML and CSS knowledge, but you won't need to know PHP or JavaScript yet.

At State of the Word 2016 (the annual presentation of WordPress stats), WordPress Co-Founder Matt Mullenweg noted that over 27% of existing websites, as well as over half of new websites are built on WordPress. Additionally, a third party poll has indicated that about 30% of Americans have heard of WordPress before. The market is growing! https://ma.tt/2016/12/state-of-the-word-2016/ Learn...
