We are going to talk about Diversity in Design. Not about what is Diversity in general, because that is a trickery slope, but about the power of designing with a diverse team and for a diverse audience. About diversity itself, let's just say that we are talking about true diversity. Not just diversity of gender, race, sexual orientation, age, nationality, social class, upbringing, and so on, but about the diversity of thought. The act of having different minds thinking of different things when they are focusing on the same problem. And the advantages of it. And why in this day and age, having a diverse team is the only way for us to tackle the global wicked problems that we are facing as a species.
As usual, we will have 3 talks of 20 minutes each, by 3 different speakers that will offer you 3 different points of view in this matter and then we will have a Q&A session where you can ask your questions to the speakers, and to finish it off, we are going to do a small group exercise where we are going to try to collectively answer the big elephant in the room question of “How can we promote diversity in design teams?”.
First, we will have Inês Louro, Product Design Team Lead at Pipedrive and Vanessa Vilela, Product Designer at Pipedrive to talk about "Diverse teams: the Challenge of inclusion".
Then, we will have James Tattersfield, Managing Director at Polar Insight to talk about "Representation and Diversity in the Design of Public Services".
And to finish it off, we will have Farai Madzima, UX Lead at Shopify, that will talk about "Diversity in Teams" and has come to Lisbon to talk at UXLx Conference.
So let's talk about all of that, and let's get together once again next Thursday, May 23rd, starting at 18:30, at the Pipedrive offices in Saldanha, Lisbon. As usual, we will have some drinks and some snacks for you to relax after the workday and, most importantly, some interesting people for you to catch up with during the break. The event only really starts at 19:00 sharp, so we ask you to be there before that, from 18:30 onwards so that you can chill, eat, drink and network a little bit, before the start of the first talk.
As usual, if you are interested in learning about the Diversity in Design, please register as soon as you can because the spots are limited and they usually run out pretty quickly.
Stay cool and see you there! =)
