Running Rails Applications on Mesos

Jairo Diaz
A common migration path towards a microservices architecture starts by using a cluster manager such as Mesos to provides efficient resource isolation and sharing across distributed applications.  In this talk we explore how to run a rails application on Mesos that could help as the first step to split a monolith rails application in multiple services.

NATS a nervous system for microservices

Dean Sheehan

Designing microsystems for scale creates a number of unique challenges for messaging infrastructure. A key pattern in a pooled microservice architecture is broadcast request with single response. As the number of potential responders grows large most messaging platforms just can't handle the load because of the way they are designed. A new low level messaging backplane is needed which should protect itself to insure availability and scale to millions of messages per second with minimal latency. The platform would also have to scale to very large numbers of clients while supporting a variety of messaging patterns. This short talk introduces NATS - a messaging platform designed for just such situations

The Architectural Monolith’s days are numbered. As companies are becoming more and more agile, and see how they can now adapt in order to innovate and compete faster than their competition, software development teams are being forced to maintain and evolve large, monolithic applications at a pace of change that those architectures were never meant to withstand, let alone embrace!
