Steve Daly, Head of Technology, BBC Archives
Summary of event:
As a society we are generating an exponentially increasing volume of data. However with digital storage there is a risk that we may not continue the coherent information legacy that was handed down to us in physical forms (e.g. paper, film). The BBC faces this problem every day as it ensures that all its varied digital-born content is kept safe and accessible in perpetuity and that, as it works to convert large volumes of its wide-ranging physical collections into digital form, the long-term security of this content can be assured. In this presentation Steve Daly will discuss the technical challenges of keeping all the BBC’s content safe forever, and will be giving some practical guidance on how you can ensure that your data has the lifespan that it deserves.
Steve Daly is Head of Technology for BBC Archives. He has worked across the BBC for over 20 years, liaising closely with the content production teams to help them make best use of technology in audio-visual content creation, distribution and archiving.
