Building Mobile Apps with Angular 2 and Ionic 2

Sep 1, 2016 · Seattle, United States of America

Speaker: Alex Muramoto, Ionic.

Abstract: For web app developers, the choice to get into mobile app development has often meant making the ugly choice of learning Java or Objective-C. Then Cordova hit the scene, offering the promise of hybrid app development using standard web technologies, but we still had a huge problem. JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS can be used to build great mobile apps, but making those apps look, feel and perform like native mobile apps is a huge challenge. In this session, we’ll look at one solution to these challenges: Ionic 2, one of the most popular hybrid app frameworks, built on Angular 2 and web/browser standards. Topics covered will include a look at the challenges of hybrid, what’s available in Ionic 2, and building a simple, component-based app that integrates native device APIs like geolocation.

Bio: Alex is a Developer Advocate for Ionic, which means he whiles away the hours figuring out how to show other developers all the ways the Ionic Framework is awesome. His previously lives have left behind a trail strewn with work in APIs, Angular, Node, and more documentation than he feels comfortable admitting. He’s done lots of talking and workshops on web technologies, API design and development, and hybrid app development. He’s also a committer on the Apache Usergrid project.

Schedule: Doors open at 6:00 pm. Food arrives around 6:05. Presentation starts at 6:30.

Other Details: As always, the meetup is completely free. Thanks to Adobe for sponsoring the group, the meeting location, and providing drinks. TEK Systems will be providing pizza.
