What I learned about developing, testing, and debugging compile time features, UDP sockets, TCP sockets, Elixir Protocols, actors, OTP mailboxes when message order isn't guaranteed, and more!
After 8 years of playing technical recruiter, Michael Pope said "eff
this", spent 2 years teaching himself himself to code, and got his
first "real" developer job in November 2014, a couple weeks after his 40th
birthday. After doing the Ruby for a couple years at Gannett Digital
& LivingSocial, he joined Synopsys to build their Cloud-In-A-Box
appliance. At work he spends all day banging on Elixir, Containers,
VMs, and networks while trying to convince everyone (especially
himself) that TESTING ALL THE OPS will actually bring balance to the
force. When not coding, Michael enjoys spending too much time on
Reddit, hosting couch surfers, and requiring a tow truck after getting
stuck in an area with no mobile phone reception in a foreign country.
