Blockchain and the law

Oct 8, 2019 · Helsinki, Finland

Today´s MeetUp topic will be presented by Jay Hamideh
*Blockchain and the law*
"The argument that “code is law” is a very common one in the blockchain community. But is it true? What does it even mean?

For this Meetup, we’ll have a less technical but more provocative approach. Blockchain seems to be a straightforward way to ensure transparency, compliance, and efficiency. Nevertheless, the reality is always more complex than binary computer code. Blockchain’s relationship with law and public policy will then be the topic presented at the Meetup.

Among the issues raised, we will talk about the regulation of tokens, whether or not smart contracts can be considered legally binding contracts, and the concerns related to blockchain-based identities. We will also present some concrete cases in which the technology is already being used in ways that can improve the law."

MeetUp aiheen esittelijänä toimii Jay Hamideh
"Tämänkertaisessa esityksessä tutustumme Laki näkökulmasta ilmiöön Blockchain eli Lohkoketju. Pohdinta ei lähde tekniikan ehdoista vaan pikemmin miten tämä uusi teknologia on alkanut asettua lainsäädäntöön tai toisinpäin, onko teknologia mahdollistanut parempaa lainsäädäntöä?" Esitys on englanniksi.
