AWS Pop-up Loft: Deploying Go Apps on the Cloud

Oct 23, 2019 · Kecamatan Tebet, Indonesia

OVERVIEW:
In a exclusive and rare joint GoJakarta + ScaleJakarta meetup hosted by Amazon Web Services, Kenneth ("Ken") Shaw the CTO of Brankas will cover "Building Go Apps at Scale." During the presentation, Ken will detail a number of ways to deploy auto scaling applications on Kubernetes using Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS). Ken will also demonstrate integrating Go apps with various cloud services (database, caching, etc), and show that when used together Go + EKS can scale to infinity!

The presentation will begin promptly at 5:00pm, and will end at roughly 6:30pm. There will be a short question and answer period after each part of the presentation.

SPACE IS LIMITED! Please RSVP only if you are able to attend! RSVP on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/aws-popup-loft-gojakarta-building-go-apps-at-scale-tickets-71865316095

EVENT SCHEDULE:
5:00PM -- Introduction by Amazon Web Services
5:10PM -- Part 1 - Building Go apps for the Cloud
5:55PM -- Q&A
6:10PM -- Part 2 - Deploying and Scaling Go apps via EKS
6:40PM -- Final Q&A

ABOUT THE SPEAKER AND TALK:
Kenneth ("Ken") Shaw is the former CTO of Multiply.com and the Founder / CTO of Brankas. During this talk, Ken will demonstrate how to architect, write, build, and deploy Go apps to the cloud, leveraging the Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS). Ken has spent the last 15 years building highly scalable payment and transaction systems using a variety of programming languages and frameworks. Ken is the author of a number of popular Go Packages (chromedp, xo, and usql), and has been actively programming in Go since late 2012. Presented in English.

While this talk will detail using Amazon Web Services, the lessons and takeaways are applicable to building and deploying Go apps via containers, directly on Kubernetes or through a managed Kubernetes service such as EKS.

ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGY:
Kubernetes is the quickest and simplest way to build scaling clusters of computing resources -- and, Amazon Web Services, and the Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) provides a straightforward way to cleanly and simply manage computing infrastructure at scale. Kubernetes and Go are taking over the DevOps world, and are empowering organizations, both big and small, to operate at unimaginable scale and efficiency. Whether you are building apps on public, private, or hybrid clouds, do not miss this presentation!

ABOUT GOJAKARTA:
GoJakarta is a monthly meetup group focused on examining applications, frameworks, and technologies written in the Go programming language. The Go programming language is an open source project to make programmers more productive. Go is expressive, concise, clean, and efficient. Its concurrency mechanisms make it easy to write programs that get the most out of multicore and networked machines, while its novel type system enables flexible and modular program construction. Go compiles quickly to machine code yet has the convenience of garbage collection and the power of run-time reflection. It's a fast, statically typed, compiled language that feels like a dynamically typed, interpreted language.

ABOUT SCALE:
Scale is a monthly meetup group focused on the art and practice of building large scale computing infrastructure in Jakarta, Indonesia. Scale invites speakers from around Asia and the World to share their knowledge and experience with the greater technology community in Indonesia. Scale's technical topics cover everything from Microservices, DevOps, Programming Languages, Development Processes, Systems Architecture, Automation, Deployments, Coordination, Configuration Management, Cloud Computing Infrastructure, to other technical aspects associated with building and running applications that scale to thousands, millions, or hundreds of millions of active users.
