August Meetup: API Design Guidelines (Plus More!)

Aug 15, 2019 · Austin, United States of America

We’re excited to announce the date for the next gathering of the Austin Homegrown API Meetup. Join us from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15. We'll meet on the third floor of the ShipEngine office at 4009 Marathon (located one block west of North Lamar between 40th and 41st streets, just behind Taco Shack). Parking is plentiful and free, and there will be signs to help you find the exact location. We'll have food plus beer and other drinks, and we'll pass out special T-shirts to anyone who wants to promote the Meetup around town.

Update: We now have our two speakers for this Meetup! Here they are:

Mike Kistler of IBM will speak on API Design Guidelines. His talk will cover guidelines and best practices for developing APIs, as well as specific guidelines IBM has put into place. Mike Kistler is a Senior Technical Staff Member in the IBM Cloud Division in Austin, TX. He currently leads a team that is creating a first-class developer experience for IBM Cloud platform, focused especially on generation of Software Development Kits (SDKs) for IBM Cloud services from OpenAPI API definitions.

James Lockwood, developer advocate at Yuuvis, will also speak. His talk will address API testing in different coding languages.

The general schedule will go like this:

5:30 to 6 p.m.: Food, beer and other drinks, socializing

6 to 7 p.m.: Introduction, presentations, discussion and Q&A

7:00 to 7:30 p.m.: Stay, eat, drink and chat with fellow attendees

Please RSVP so we know how much food and drink to have. Send a message if you have any questions or ideas, and look for the signs to find the exact location. Oh, and feel free to bring friends!

Do you have an idea for a future talk? We want to hear it! We’re interested in topics like API design, management, testing, documentation, tips & tricks, tools, emerging technologies, or anything else API related. Talk to a ShipEngine representative at the meetup, or email us at [masked]. Let us know if you’d like to give a lightning talk (5–15 minutes) or a feature talk (30–45 minutes).
