Talk One: How improvisation can fertilize your work as a designer
In many professions, the main problems we are facing in our daily job aren't technical problems or lack-of-skill kind of problems, but people problems. This is true also for the design world. In this talk, Claudia Hoppe will present one approach to such kind of problems that is not only pretty effective, but also a lot of fun: Applied improv! "Applied improv" is the serious version of skills, methods and mindsets taken from improvisational theatre, to make them usable for serious contexts like work or business. Claudia will share her ideas about what you can do when you are approached by some of the most common issues that UX and UI designers are facing – and you will experience yourself how it feels to get into the mindset of "applied improv". So: have fun!
Speaker: Claudia Hoppe
Claudia Hoppe has studied philosophy and sociology in Berlin before she started her 10-year-career as Project Manager in Customer Care in multi-national tech giant Nokia and HERE. In this role, she acted as the interface between the various teams developing the product "Maps" – e.g. UX design – and the Customer Care department. In 2009, Claudia met the biggest love of her life: Improvisational Theatre. Their relationship still lasts and even deepened, when Claudia started her own improv group in 2011 and began to teach impro to others in 2013. By now, she has made impro her main profession as a freelance trainer with a focus on the areas of social skills like teamwork and communication, e.g. in her own courses, in VHS and for companies.
