All Hands on DevOps #7 - All details are now confirmed.

We're incredibly excited to welcome you all to Third Republic's shiny new Shoreditch based, loft-style offices for our next event on March 15th!

ECS Digital will be on hand to supply the pizza to keep us going between talks alongside the Third Republic team providing beers and other refreshments to fuel the Q&A :-)

So the agenda for the evening:

18:30 - Doors open, refreshments and networking

19:15 - Data Driven Analytics for DevOps from Andi Mann - Chief Technology Advocate at Splunk.

Andi Mann, Chief Technology Advocate at Splunk, is an accomplished digital business executive with extensive global expertise as a strategist, technologist, innovator, marketer, and communicator. For over 30 years across five continents, Andi has built success with startups, enterprises, vendors, governments, and as a leading research analyst.

Andi has been named to multiple ‘Top …’ lists; is the co-author of two popular books, 'Visible Ops – Private Cloud'; and 'The Innovative CIO'; and tweets as @AndiMann

IT organisations are increasingly using machine data – including in DevOps practices – to get away from ‘vanity metrics’ and instead to generate ‘metrics that matter’. These metrics provide visibility into the delivery of new application code and the business value of DevOps, to both IT and business stakeholders.

Machine data provides DevOps teams and others – including QA, SecOps, CxOs and LOB leaders – with meaningful and actionable metrics. This allows stakeholders to monitor, measure, manage, and continuously improve the velocity and quality of code throughout the software lifecycle, from dev/test to customer-facing outcomes and business impact.

In this session Andi Mann, chief technology advocate at Splunk, will share core methodologies, interesting case studies, key success factors and ‘gotcha’ moments from real-world experiences with mining machine data to produce ‘metrics that matter’ in a DevOps context.

19:50 - pizza, refreshments etc.

20:10 - What We Learned About Monitoring Production Container Workloads in an Enterprise from Chris Jackson - Director of Cloud Product Engineer at Pearson.

Chris Jackson is the Director of Cloud Product Engineering at Pearson. He leads a small team of incredibly talented engineers into a brave new world of containerised platforms for Pearson's next generation of digital services. His passion for building valuable technology combined with his amateur skills in all things code inevitably led him to a leadership role where he can help others achieve their goals and engage them in some of the most exciting technology spaces available.

Prior to Pearson, Chris spent 8 years with Rackspace observing and participating in the cloud explosion through the eyes of a vendor and seeing how Open Source Software is genuinely changing our approach to everything. He is a reformed thought-leader who will over a beer tell you that many of the world's problems could be solved with a bit of DevOps...  When he is not working, Chris has a wife and two young boys who serve as a brilliant reminder that bettering education services is a worthy investment of his time. He also is an avid rugby, football and formula one fan who dreams of one day owning a car faster that his release cycles.

Pearson have been running production Kubernetes workloads for almost one year now, this talk outlines the things we've learned so far and the things we're looking at next on our journey to a global platform for all the company.  Learn from some of our mistakes and share your experiences of things we haven't looked at yet.  We hope this talk is a real world insight from a full-scale production deployment of Kubernetes.

20:45 - networking, refreshments etc.

21:15 - On to The Reliance (336 Old St) for networking etc

We look forward to seeing you all on the 15th for what looks to be a fantastic event!

As always if you're interested in talking at a future event as always please do get in touch.
