Write Your Game in Rust!
12:30 pm CDT - Announcement
12:35 pm CDT - Presentation
After - Questions/Networking
ABOUT THE TALK:
For Stack Overflow’s most loved language, Rust, we’re more than ready to start making games. We’ll go over the tools we have including:
• Structuring Code
And show how those tools are as good or better than what we had a few years ago in the old standbys. If you’re interested in Rust, but thought it wasn’t ready for game development, I hope this talk will convince you otherwise.
Eric Smith is a Principal Crafter at 8th Light with experience in Web, Mobile and Game development. He’s designed innovative software solutions for some of 8th Light’s largest and most challenging clients. A consummate polyglot, Eric has deliberately worked on projects that force him to build complicated products and employ many different languages to reinforce his code sense.
In the last two years Eric began dedicating himself to learning Rust, frequently doing so in public at https://www.twitch.tv/paytonrules, where he began using Rust to develop small video games. This has led to the book “Game Development with Rust and WebAssembly” which is scheduled to be published in early 2022 and is available for pre-order: https://amzn.to/3rnNUF9. In that book you build an endless runner style of game from scratch, with the code written entirely in Rust.
Eric earned both his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and his Master’s of Science Degree in Video Game Development from DePaul University. You can find him talking about software, his kids and sports on twitter @paytonrules.
The streaming link is available to registrants. This presentation will be recorded and the recording will be posted shortly after the presentation. You can find recordings of previous 8th Light University talks on our Youtube page: https://www.youtube.com/c/8thLightInc
