1)Building a Killr Application w/ C* & 2) Deep dive into DataFrames on Apache C*

Nov 16, 2016 · San Francisco, United States of America

For this meetup we are excited to be joined by Patrick McFadin, Chief Evangelist for Apache Cassandra™ at DataStax who will be giving two great talks!

What You'll Learn At This Meetup:

1) Building a Killr Application with Apache Cassandra

Beyond the basics of how Apache Cassandra works, lies the ultimate goal: building an actual application. The team at DataStax Developer Relations has built a awesome reference application called KillrVideo. Lets spend the time thinking through an application data model. Apply business logic to your new data model and how to implement the actual code.

2) Deep dive into DataFrames on Apache Cassandra:

Abstract: Apache Spark as an analytics framework on Cassandra is a great choice. DataFrames allow you to project structured data for processing which is a perfect fit for the table data model of Cassandra. You’ll learn how it works under the covers, with things like how CQL predicates are pushed down. Most important, how all that SQL knowledge you have can be used on Cassandra!  I’ll have some examples setup in Zeppelin and ready to share. You bring the questions and dig in!

About Patrick McFadin:

Patrick McFadin is one of the leading experts of Apache Cassandra and data modeling techniques. As the Chief Evangelist for Apache Cassandra and consultant for DataStax, he has helped build some of the largest and exciting deployments in production. Previous to DataStax, he was Chief Architect at Hobsons and an Oracle DBA/Developer for over 15 years.

* A BIG THANK YOU TO CLOUDFLARE FOR HOSTING! Food and drinks will be served, hope to see you there!
